Iberian settlement of Torre Roja (Sentmenat)
Located on a strategic hill overlooking the Caldes stream valley, the Iberian settlement of Torre Roja is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Sentmenat area. This ancient fortified settlement offers a glimpse into how Iberian communities lived before and during the arrival of the Romans, in a privileged location that combined territorial defense with control of communication routes.
The origins of the settlement date back to the 6th century BC, and its occupation continued until the beginning of the 1st century AD. During this long period, the settlement underwent various transformations that reflect the evolution of Iberian society. The settlement was part of the territory of the Laietani, one of the Iberian peoples who inhabited the lands of present-day Vallès and other areas of the central Catalan coast.
Archaeological excavations have revealed the remains of walls, dwellings, and defensive structures, helping to understand the urban layout of the settlement. Its elevated location facilitated surveillance of the surrounding area and control of roads and trade routes, factors that contributed to the strategic importance of this settlement.
Recent research has revealed that Torre Roja was one of the most important Iberian settlements in the Vallès region. Archaeological findings have provided information about the daily life, architecture, and evolution of this community, and some of the recovered artifacts have been displayed in local exhibitions.
The site has also been the subject of guided tours and archaeological outreach activities, which allow its historical value to be brought closer to the public and to learn more about the legacy of the ancient inhabitants of the territory.
Discovering the Iberian settlement of Torre Roja is an ideal option for lovers of history, archaeology, and hiking. A place where Iberian heritage and natural landscape combine to offer an experience that invites you to travel back more than two thousand years.
