Located on Roca del Corb, very close to the Salt de Guanta waterfall, Guanta Castle is one of the most interesting medieval remains in Sentmenat. Also popularly known as the Moorish Castle, this ancient fortification stood in a strategic location that allowed for surveillance of the surrounding territory and control of the roads connecting different areas of inland Catalonia.

The castle's history dates back to the Middle Ages, with documentary references placing its existence as early as 1012. Its construction stemmed from the need for defensive and surveillance points in a territory where castles played a fundamental role in the organization and control of the land. Guanta Castle would have formed part of a defensive system that controlled communications between the Vallès and Moianès regions.

Over the centuries, the fortification lost its military function and was gradually abandoned. Currently, Guanta Castle is in ruins, with only two sections of stone wall remaining, allowing us to identify the site of the former structure and imagine its defensive importance.

Several legends and popular traditions have also been preserved around the castle. One of the best known tells that it served as a refuge for Count Borrell during a time of conflict, although this story is part of oral tradition and is not historically confirmed.

The Castle of Guanta should not be confused with Can Castellet de Guanta, a different rural building that has been mistakenly linked to the old fortification. This confusion is partly due to the reuse of stones from earlier buildings.

Exploring the ruins of Guanta Castle is an exciting option for lovers of medieval history, legends, and hiking. Its natural surroundings, near the Guanta Waterfall, offer an attractive setting to combine the discovery of historical heritage with the landscape of Sentmenat.
