The Serra Cavallera Dolmen, in Sentmenat, is one of the oldest evidences of human presence in the region and an interesting example of Catalonia's megalithic heritage. Located in a natural setting, this stone funerary monument allows visitors to travel back thousands of years and discover how prehistoric communities constructed their burial sites and paid homage to the deceased.

The origins of the dolmen date back to around 2700 BC, during prehistory, making it a structure over four thousand years old. These types of monuments, known as megalithic tombs, were commonly used as collective burial sites and reflect the beliefs and funerary rituals of the communities that inhabited these lands.

From an architectural standpoint, the Serra Cavallera Dolmen is a Pyrenean chamber tomb with a frontal entrance. Its structure is based on large, vertically arranged stone slabs that support a capstone, forming a burial chamber. Despite the apparent simplicity of the structure, its construction required significant organization and a considerable collective effort.

One of the most interesting features is the system used to position the large roof slab. According to the construction technique described, the side walls were reinforced and covered with sand to create a slope that allowed the upper stone to be dragged into its final position. This procedure demonstrates the practical knowledge of prehistoric communities.

The Serra Cavallera Dolmen is part of a group of megalithic remains that attest to human occupation of the Sentmenat area since ancient times. Discovering it is an ideal option for history, archaeology, and hiking enthusiasts, as it combines contact with nature with the discovery of a monument that preserves the memory of the area's first inhabitants.
