On the shady slopes of Tres Turons, as well as in other shady areas, abandoned chestnut groves still remain, remnants of the only chestnut cultivation in the Maresme region. Currently, where the forest regenerates naturally, holm oaks and oaks are beginning to grow.

Chestnut wood was used for making barrels, poles, hoops, and staves. The trees were cut down every 10 or 12 years, when the wood was still thin and flexible. These successive fellings explain the appearance of the trees we find today, with several slender trunks growing from the same stump.

The boatman's trade predated that of the carpenter. Barrels intended for maritime transport were made entirely of wood to avoid bud rot. Over time, this activity diversified and gave rise to the carpenter's trade.

Unlike the large chestnut trees of the Montseny massif, cultivated to take advantage of their fruit, those in this area were kept thin because the wood was used mainly.
