Maresme
Maresme is a coastal region located northeast of Barcelona, famous for its long beaches, charming villages and a rich agricultural tradition, especially known for strawberries and DO Alella wines. With the Mediterranean to the east and the coastal mountain ranges to the west, Maresme offers a wide variety of landscapes and activities.
The capital, Mataró, has an important historical legacy dating back to Roman times, with remains such as the Roman villa of Torre Llauder. It is also notable for its modernist heritage, with works by Josep Puig and Cadafalch, such as the Casa Coll y Regàs. Mataró combines its history with an active commercial and cultural life.
The beaches of Maresme are one of its main attractions. Municipalities such as Calella, Arenys de Mar and Pineda de Mar are popular for their golden sandy beaches and tourist attractions. Arenys de Mar, with its fishing port, is known for the Sinera Cemetery, immortalized by the poet Salvador Espriu.
The agricultural heritage of the Maresme is also noteworthy. The peas from Llavaneres and the strawberries from Sant Pol de Mar are renowned for their quality, and the DO Alella produces some of the most highly prized white wines and cavas in Catalonia. Inland villages such as Argentona or Dosrius offer an ideal natural setting for hiking, with lush forests and peaceful landscapes.
Modernism has a strong presence in the region, with Canet de Mar as a reference, where you can visit works by Lluís Domènech and Montaner, such as Casa Roura and the Ateneu Canetenc.
The gastronomy of Maresme combines fresh seafood, such as fish stew, with ingredients from the garden. The local cuisine is rich and varied, with local products that make each dish a unique experience.
Maresme is a vibrant region that combines nature, history and gastronomy, ideal for enjoying both the coast and the interior.
