The racial territory
Currently they have declared more than two hundred trees in the whole of Catalonia.
Forests white pine species are the most prevalent in terms of hectares in our territory. However, when it comes to the existing tree with the largest number of copies, this is the oak. Both species are the majority in low levels. By contrast, at high levels majority got used to be red pine forests.
Despite this predominance of certain species, there are many others. Well, among the two hundred trees as monuments listed about 54 different species, where white pines, oaks, oaks, plane trees or pine predominate, obviously, among others.
These trees listed as monuments are relevant, especially in the region of Osona while, for example, Gironès, Baix Penedès, the Segrià and La Segarra are the regions with fewer trees declared monuments, presumably because the density of forests is low and dominated cultures.
For the same reason, in Osona, particularly in Espinelves, it is the farm with a greater concentration of monumental trees in Catalonia. This is the farm Masjoan, a grove formed by a large number of tree plantations, which many of them, over 40 meters high. It stands on the grounds of Masjoan, especially the horse chestnut and maple.
The Pi de les Tres Branques, Catalan symbol
Besides its importance as a symbol is an exceptional case of dead tree conservation, since this is what since 1914 but is still standing. Recently one of its branches was cut.
When he was alive he was a red pine that was over 28 meters high.
The Pi de les Tres Branques symbolizes the unity of the Catalan countries, as its three branches, born of the same strain, they represent Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands.
This symbolism was given following a poem by Jacint Verdaguer, dedicated to this tree and where the protagonist is with King James I, who dreams under the pine was become king of Catalonia, Valencia and Mallorca.
Since 1904 is held the third Sunday of July, around the tree, a nationalist meeting.
Currently, about a hundred meters from this tree is another red pine consists of three branches with a significant height and listed as a monumental tree that seems to be the substitute known Pi de les Tres Branques.

The wider the tree and oldest tree
What Parot or the father of the olive is a tree that stands out, too, because of his age. It is an ancient olive tree that is about 600 meters from the exit of the municipality of Horta de Sant Joan.
Experts say it is the oldest tree in Catalonia, and also it is possible that the Iberian peninsula.
It is a type of olive tree very similar to Empeltre, a variety traditionally cultivated in the region of Terra Alta. Although this variety is distinguished from Parot by having this a few more elongated leaves and fruits.
The original strain of the olive tree, which is dead, has been the refuge of many animals and farmers.
If the Parot is the oldest of Catalonia tree, chestnut or brown Can Cuc Gros of the Casa del Bosc is the widest, with almost twelve meters in diameter. So, too, the example of the species Castanea Sativa with a larger perimeter of the Iberian Peninsula.
This is in the place of Baga Cuc, near the tributary stream Vallfornès, in the municipality of Cànoves ( Barcelona ) and within the limits of the Natural Park of Montseny. Its location, easily accessible, it has made it seldom visited, though his fame has brought more visitors in recent times.
Its interior is empty because of a fire that burned for three days and three nights from an existing hole in the crust. This accident left empty strain, which was soon inhabited by a collier who had installed a bed, a table and chairs and even a fireplace for a year and half.
