During the medieval and early modern periods, the Parish Church of Santa María was one of the most important buildings in the town, both for its religious function and its role in the social life of its inhabitants. It was not only a place where people went to pray and participate in religious celebrations, but also a space for neighbors to meet and socialize.

In those days, many of the most important events in people's lives were celebrated in the church, such as baptisms, first communions, weddings, and other religious ceremonies. For this reason, the church held great importance in people's daily lives. Furthermore, the village cemetery surrounded the building, a space that allowed the memory of previous generations to be kept alive and preserved a part of the history of its inhabitants.

In terms of architecture, the current church retains a Romanesque structure, likely originating from an earlier temple built during the 11th century. However, some architectural elements, such as the way the stones are laid, the entrance door, and the openings that allow light to enter, indicate that the building underwent modifications in later periods.

Therefore, this church is an important element of the historical and cultural heritage of the town, as it reflects both the evolution of its architecture and the customs and traditions of the community throughout the centuries.
