The Castanyeda de Merlí, in Viladrau, is one of the most impressive chestnut forests in the area. Some trees are over 500 years old, notable for their unique and beautiful shapes. The Erola stream flows alongside it, and its small waterfalls add to the charm of this place.

How to get there?

Once in Viladrau, you can park your car on Montseny Avenue, near the roundabout. From there, follow the PR-C 205 trail, which passes behind the Mas el Torrent farmhouse and runs parallel to the stream, without crossing it. The route is well-marked and easy, with gentle ascents and descents.

Along the way you will pass the Pont dels Segalars, which is wide enough for a car to pass. However, you must cross it with caution, as it has no railings, especially if you are with children.

When you reach the Mas el Molins farmhouse, you'll find a fork in the road. Take the left path, towards the Erola hermitage. Further on, you'll pass Can Bosc and continue along the same path.

Look for the turnoff before reaching the hermitage: about 30 meters before, there's a wooden signpost. At this point, take the path that leads into the woods and, after about 100 meters, will take you to the Castanyeda de Merli.

To discover the largest and most spectacular chestnut trees, you must travel through the entire chestnut grove to the highest point.
