Baix Ebre
The Baix Ebre is a region in the south of Catalonia, where the Ebro River, the largest river in the Iberian Peninsula, is the undisputed protagonist of the landscape and local life. This river crosses the region from north to south, creating a privileged natural environment that includes the Ebro Delta Natural Park, one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean, known for its biodiversity and especially for its large number of migratory birds.
The capital of the region, Tortosa, is a historic city with a rich architectural heritage that reflects its Arab, Jewish and Christian past. Its most emblematic monument is the Castillo de la Suda, an Arab fortress located on the top of a hill, with spectacular views over the city and the river. In addition, the Gothic and Baroque Cathedral of Santa María is a jewel that is located in the heart of the old town of Tortosa, full of cobbled streets and stately homes that retain their medieval charm.
The Baix Ebre is also a paradise for nature and outdoor sports lovers. The Els Ports Natural Park, with its rugged mountains and deep ravines, is ideal for hiking, climbing and other mountain activities. This park shares territory with other regions, but in the Baix Ebre area it offers spectacular landscapes, such as the Rocas de Benet or the Mas de Barberans , an entry point to routes of great beauty.
The region's gastronomy is another of its attractions, with typical dishes that include rice from the Delta, fresh fish, eels and the famous mussels and oysters from Fangar Bay. In addition, local olive oils and wines complement a cuisine that fuses the flavours of the land and the sea.
Stay here, enjoy the unique landscapes, visit the historic villages and let yourself be captivated by the tranquillity and natural wealth of the Baix Ebre, a land where the river and the sea meet in harmony.
