Vilamòs

Vilamòs is a municipality in the Vall d'Aran region. It is formed by the nucleus of Vilamòs and that of Era Bordeta. These, together with other population centers, are part of the Terir de Lairissa.

The core of Vilamòs is located at 1,200 meters of altitude, on a slope of the mountain of Uishèra.

It seems that Vilamos is considered the first town in the Vall de Aran, although previously its location was elsewhere. In fact, it was located where the church of San Miguel is currently located , approximately one kilometer from where it is located today. The old population center was destroyed by a downpour.

The population center of Vilamòs is crowned by the church of Santa María, of Romanesque origin and from the 12th century. Its construction in this period makes it one of the oldest in the Valley of Aran. Close to this, there is also the hermitage of Santa Bárbara and Santa Lucía.

Vilamos has the house Ecomuseo Ço de Joanchiquet, which tries to recreate how was a house and life in this town of Valle de Aran. For this, they have preserved the furniture and atmosphere of the early twentieth century. Ço de Joanchiquet is considered a house of the richest, not only of Vilamòs, but also of all the Baix Aran.

In addition, the natural environment of Vilamòs is certainly enviable for many populations. Therefore, they show different natural itineraries. We highlight the excursion to the Montlude, located at more than 2,500 meters, with a duration of about six hours and departure in this town. It is an outing to do with skis, during which you will enjoy fantastic views, which highlights the unusual perspectives on Viella, on the one hand, and Canejan, on the other. In this exit, you will pass through the cabin of Uishèra, below the Cerro de Sacauva, up towards the Cuello de Laura and through the lakes and huts towards the Cuello der Laguna.
