Vilademuls

Vilademuls is a municipality located to the east of the Pla de l'Estany region, it is also known as Terraprim, a transitional landscape between the Empordà plain and the rugged areas of Garrotxa.

Vilademuls is made up of 12 towns, each with its charm and heterogeneous landscape.

Towns

Chickens

The oldest documents that mention the town of Galliners are from the 10th century. It is 25 km from Girona and is located 131 meters above sea level. The most notable places of interest are the parish of Sant Julià de Galliners (Sancti Juliani de Gallinariis) and the hermitage of Sant Baldiri.

Olives

It is a town located south of San Esteban de Guialbes. Its name recalls the fruit of the olive trees that were grown in such abundance in this area. Many families made oil in their oil mill and it is easy to see disused pikes in the patio of many houses.

Ollers

It is a town spread across the Remiol torrent basin. It is about 10 km from Banyoles. Its name suggests that its origin comes from a popular industry dedicated to making pots.

Orfes

The oldest known reference to the town is from 826. Some believe that its name comes from Arfa, which would be the name of the family that colonized these places.

Parets d'Empordà

It is located on the right bank of the Fluvià, 26 km from Girona, and its height above sea level is 70 meters. Its name is derived from wall. It is assumed that at the time of the reconquest, walls and ruins from some previous colonization and perhaps even from some Roman construction would be found, which would justify the name of Parets.

Sant Esteve de Guialbes

It is located in the eastern part of the Pla de l'Estany region, on a small hill formerly called Puig Blanquer, the most notable places of interest are the castle, the main square and the church.

Sant Marçal de Quarantella

Located on a small hill at the end of the Sierra Viadera that follows the old town of Can Viader de Galliners. The oldest data that has come down to us is from the year 941 and is cited as the eastern limit of the Jewish possession called Coscolla or Garric.

Terradelles

The town of Terradelles is located on a hill on the left bank of the Sinyana River, 21 km from Girona and 105 meters above sea level. The most notable places of interest are the town church, the Vilar church and the old Huguet house.

Vilademat

It is a town located in the northwest corner of the municipality, about 25 km from Girona. It is the highest town in the district, 225m above sea level. The most notable places of interest are the Church and the hermitage of San Roque.

Vilademuls

Vilademuls, located on the top of a hill about 120m above sea level, is the central municipality. It is 23 km from Girona and 17 from Banyoles. The most notable places of interest are the Villa House, the Castle and the Church.

Vilafreser

Vilafreser is a name composed of the Latin word villa, and the Germanic word Fride, (peace) later Latinized in the form Fredarius. It means, therefore, a people of peace. It is located on the southeastern edge of the Pla de l'Estany region, about 16 km from Girona, and is 115 meters above sea level.

Vilamari

The town of Vilamarí is located in the mountain range that separates Farga and Sinyana. It is about 23 km from Girona and its height above sea level is 130m. The first document that contains the name of Vilamarí is from 1128 and is found in the archive of the Girona cathedral.
