Talavera

Province: Lleida | Shire: La Segarra | Inhabitants: 302 | Extension: 30,1 Km2 | Altitude: 791 m

The town of Talavera (120 h in 2005) rises in the western part of the municipality, at an altitude of 791 m, on the slope of a mountain crowned by the old castle. The parish church of San Salvador de Talavera is located a few meters from the houses of the urban fence, at the top of the mountain range. It conserves a Romanesque doorway from the 12th century and a wall lock; they widened it modernly with a simple neoclassical style and put the entrance on the eastern façade.

The remains of the Talavera castle, located within the town at its highest point, are confused with the construction of a house. The town conserves some covered streets and Calle del Call, where Jews had lived. Further to the west of the town there is a half-collapsed cylindrical tower called Molí de Vent, on the way to Guardia Lada and Corcho. The main festival is celebrated on the last weekend of May.
