The church of Sant Martí de Romanyà invites you to discover pre-Romanesque architecture through the building's form and construction details. Dating from the second half of the 10th or the beginning of the 11th century, it is a church worth observing at leisure, both from the outside and inside.

Its documented history takes you back to the year 1019, when it is already mentioned as belonging to the canons of Girona. This reference is a starting point for placing the temple in its historical context.

The building has a cruciform plan with prominent transept arms and a trapezoidal apse. All its parts are covered with vaults. At the intersection with the transept arms rises a pseudo-domed structure: look at this point to recognize one of the building's features.

The double-splayed windows and the fairly regular arrangement of the stones in the walls already hint at Romanesque forms. These details help you understand this period in architecture. On the south side, you'll find the doorway, protected by a small porch that is also part of the ensemble.

Inside, a wooden image of Saint Martin, created in the 20th century by the Olot sculptor Modest Fluvià, is preserved. This work adds a contemporary touch to the pre-Romanesque church and offers another element to admire during your visit.

Masses: If you wish to attend, Mass is celebrated on the second Sunday of each month in winter and on the second and fourth Sundays of each month in summer. In both cases, the time is 12:15 pm.
