Sant Esteve de la Sarga
The town of Sant Esteve de la Sarga is located on a hillside (875 m), on the northern slopes of the Montsec mountain range, watching over the path to the Ares pass. Further down is the parish church of San Esteban protomartir, of Romanesque origin; In the lower part of the perimeter walls, a clearly Romanesque device can be distinguished, perhaps from the end of the 11th century, on which there are several courses of later ashlars and, in the upper part, a modern wall.
To the west of San Esteban, upstream from the San Esteban de la Sarga ravine, is the sanctuary of the Virgin of Fabregada, which depends on the parish of San Esteban. It is a Romanesque building, from the 12th century, with a nave covered with a barrel vault and a semicircular apse; the belfry is located on the western wall. The place of ipsa Fabregada is documented in 1038, in the terms of the castle of Mur, at the time when the counts Ramon and Ermesenda de Pallars Jussà gave it alode in Bertran Ató.
