Maià de Montcal
Maià de Montcal, is a municipality of La Garrotxa, located at 241 meters of altitude and at the foot of the Montcal mountain (546 m), on the border with the Alt Empordà and the Pla de l'Estany, it is located in the south -the east of the massif of the Mare de Déu del Mont and at the eastern end of the Garrotxa.
The term has an extension of 17,29 km 2, limits with the municipalities of Beuda by the north and the west; Cabanelles and Crespià in the east, and in the south Sant Ferriol and Serinyà.
The neighbors that make up the municipality are Bruguers, Les Jonqueres, Les Carreres, Llorenç, Pla de Baix, Pla de Dalt and also the old town of Dosquers, which includes Dosquers-Núcleo, Riera, Usall and Vila-rodona.
The river Fluvià that runs through the south of the term, receives the waters of the streams of Maià, Bruguera, Pudosa and Segueró, the streams of Maià and Segueró flow into this river within the term of Dosquers, an old municipality that was added in Maià the year 1969.
The economy of the town is based on livestock and agriculture, the main crops are cereals and corn, vegetables, vegetables and olives, although the latter have been declining.
Maià de Montcal enjoys good communications to be found at the crossroads between three regions: Alt Empordà, Pla de l'Estany and La Garrotxa.
