Llardecans

Province: Lleida | Shire: Segrià | Inhabitants: 450 | Extension: 66,0 Km2 | Altitude: 397 m

"Llardecans is cool". It was said by an adhesive that caused a furore in the population in the mid-90s and we ratified it well into the 21st century. The 450 inhabitants that currently represent the main value of the town enjoy a beautiful and wide population, well located geographically and with good communications. The 397 m altitude of the population allows them to suffer less cold in winter and also less heat in summer compared to neighboring populations.

The municipality belongs administratively to Segrià and borders the Ribera de Ebro. It is one of the towns that constitute the so-called "historical Garrigues", between the terms of Sarroca de Lleida, Torrebesses and Maials, and, as far as the administrative Garrigues, comes across La Granadella. Its landscape is typically Carrasque, with predominance of olive and almond crops, although there are also planted and some apricot plantations. Scattered by the term stand out the constructions of dry stone, with more than 50 cabins of stone. The access to Llardecans is comfortable: it is twenty minutes by car from Lleida, Flix and Fraga. In addition, the town has local roads and tracks that connect it quickly with the villages on the edge.

In the streets of the old town of Llardecans you can find large stone houses of the eighteenth century, made in the period of prosperity that led to the extension of olive cultivation. With the excellent state of preservation of the two temples - the church of Santa María and the chapel of the Virgin of Loreto - the high religiosity that has been breathed historically to the city, which has provided several priests and nuns is revealed. throughout his career and that even has a beat, Miquel Masip. The Camino de Santiago also passes by, and one of its most significant houses preserves, on the façade, the image of the shell of the pilgrims, since it had been a resting place for the walkers.
