Castanyeda of the Racó volcano (Les Preses)
In the Garrotxa region, the municipality of Les Preses hides natural spots ideal for enjoying the colors of autumn. In the forests surrounding the Racó volcano and the Xenacs area, chestnut trees share the spotlight with oaks, beeches, and holm oaks, creating a particularly attractive landscape during October and November.
The area around the Racó volcano preserves chestnut groves that are part of the rich forest of this volcanic territory. When autumn arrives, the paths are filled with dry leaves and shades of ochre and gold, inviting leisurely strolls to discover the hidden treasures of the forest.
A great way to explore this area is to follow the route that starts in the village of Les Preses and climbs towards Xenacs, passing by the Racó volcano. The trail winds through oak, beech, and holm oak forests until reaching the Xenacs recreation area, a magnificent natural viewpoint overlooking the Vall d'en Bas and the Garrotxa volcanic zone.
If you're looking for a place to enjoy chestnut season in Girona, this area is an interesting alternative to combine an autumn excursion with observing the chestnut trees and discovering the landscape.
It is worth remembering that the presence of chestnut trees does not guarantee finding chestnuts and that, before collecting them, it is important to respect private property, find out about the necessary permits and preserve the natural environment.
