Les Piles
Les Piles is a municipality located in the Conca de Barberà region, which is part of the natural region of Baja Segarra.
The village of Les Piles is crossed from end to end by the main street which acts as the axis and where almost all the streets of the town converge. It was formed under the shelter of the castle, which with many restorations and additions is located in a small hill, next to the town.
The church is dedicated to Sant Martí and is in neoclassical style, it was built in the 18th century. On the south side of Les Piles is the hermitage of Santa Eugènia, dedicated to the patron saint of the town.
Another outstanding architectural monument in the municipality is the castle of Biure. It is in neoclassical style and was built in the 18th century, probably on the site of the old Romanesque church.
In the southern part of the town, on top of a small hill, is the hermitage dedicated to Santa Eugènia, the town's patron saint.
History
The Saracens conquered the area at the end of the 10th century. It came under the protection of Montclar Castle at the beginning of the 11th century. Bernat de Boixadors is documented as Lord of Les Piles in 1379. According to documentation, nineteen families lived in Les Piles. After a year, Bernat de Boixadors bought the entire and mixed empire from Prince Joan. In the year 1496, the population dropped to sixteen families.
During the modern age, Les Piles belonged to the Counts of Savallà, who kept it until the extinction of the baronial domains. In the mid-nineteenth century, Les Piles formed a town council together with Biure de Gaià.
