Les Piles

Les Piles is a municipality that is located in the Conca de Barberà region, which is part of the Baja Segarra natural region.

The town of Les Piles is crossed from end to end by Calle Mayor, which serves as the axis and to which almost all the streets of the town converge. It was formed in the shelter of the castle, which with many restorations and additions is located on a small hill, next to the town.

The church is dedicated to Sant Martí and is neoclassical in style, it was built in the 18th century. On the south side of Les Piles is the hermitage of Santa Eugenia, dedicated to the patron saint of the town.

Another outstanding architectural monument of the municipality is the castle of Biure. It is neoclassical in style and built in the 18th century, probably on the site of the old Romanesque church.

In the southern part of the town, on top of a small hill, is the hermitage dedicated to Santa Eugenia, patron saint of the town.

History

The Saracens conquered the term at the end of the 10th century. And it came under the protection of the Castle of Montclar at the beginning of the 11th century. Bernat de Boixadors is documented as Lord of the Batteries in 1379. According to documentation. Nineteen families lived in Les Piles. During the modern age, Les Piles belonged to the counts of Savallà, who maintained their possession until the extinction of the baronial domains. In the mid-19th century, Les Piles forms a town hall together with Biure de Gaià.
