La Fatarella

Province: Tarragona | Shire: Terra Alta | Inhabitants: 1.130 | Extension: 56,5 Km2 | Altitude: 487 m

Northeast of the region of Terra Alta find Faterella township making the limit with the neighboring county of Ribera d'Ebre. It is a mountainous area and is substantially surrounded by the Serra of flat Faterella and Camposines them.

In this plain known as the flat Camposines them remains were found corresponding to the Bronze Age. It should be added that it was a villa Camposines until 1842 that the Faterella annexed. In addition to be an Iberian presence was also believed to be a territory run by Muslims and that the name of the Faterella comes from a defense tower of Arab origin who was named Fatorella (means tower in Arabic).

Faterella received a town charter in 1228 and began to form the town with this name in the Middle Ages. At this time it was a walled town and came to grow while the people had to overcome the walls and located where the present municipality.

We can not forget that the Faterella was one of the highlights during the Battle of the Ebro. For this reason in the environment remain, even today, remains of this war (trenches, shelters, ...).

Also, on top of a hill of 526 meters is the Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu de la Misericordia, it is believed that there were no Arab tower. This sanctuary was affected by the Civil War.

Faterella has always been a town dedicated to agriculture. Therefore, one of its most emblematic festivals is related to this activity, the Fira de l'oli. This fair is held in December and that of all the events planned is made ??typical and traditional breakfast with oil and Clotxa (country bread with herring or sardines, garlic and tomatoes inside).
