La Castanyeda de l'Espinàs (Espinelves)
The forests surrounding Espinelves form a mosaic of colors and textures, where the persistent green of the conifers blends with the diversity of the broadleaf trees. Throughout the year, this contrast transforms the landscape, lending it ever-changing nuances, especially visible when autumn paints the treetops in shades of ochre and gold.
Chestnut trees are also part of this landscape and, in some corners, they become the main protagonists.
Between the hills of Grèvol and Rovira, rainwater filters down into the Grèvol stream and the Sot dels Esparvers valley. On these cool, permeable slopes, with their wild yet welcoming air, stretches a chestnut grove of tall, uniform trunks. The slender trunks create a regular rhythm, while the canopies filter the light and create a secluded atmosphere. On the ground, leaf litter and chestnut husks add new textures to the undergrowth.
Despite this uniformity, some corners of the l'Espinàs estate conceal remarkable specimens that have become naturalized there. Their presence breaks the regularity of the chestnut grove and invites a closer look at the details of the forest. These are spaces to slow down, let your gaze wander, and discover the uniqueness hidden within a seemingly uniform landscape.
