El Papiol

To the left of the river Llobregat, in the Baix Llobregat, find the Papiol. Like many of its neighboring towns are known exactly at the Madrona Puig an Iberian settlement existed. This top is so named because it was imprisoned during the Middle Ages to a mother (midwife) in this mountain.

As we can assume, initially, the population was located in the top but because of its growth moved up to where the present town. Near the top is the Ermita de la Salut Romanesque Santa Eulalia also known as Madrona. Also, in this area there is an entourage of landforms called Escletxes (gaps). These are some natural gaps that have formed in the bulk of the mountain, pushing through.

The territory where the Papiol is very rugged. Considering the altitude of the Puig de la Madrona, it is 336 meters. Although this is one of the lowest of which they are part, jointly, Collserola Park.

1116 year of the municipality's news concerning the Castle as it was in this year when the Count of Barcelona gave him the brothers Arnau in gratitude for his efforts.

Due to an earthquake that hit the area the castle collapsed, but was rebuilt in 1448. There are legends that emphasize this fact.

The brothers took the surname Despapiol Arnau. And are the first references are on Papiol name, which apparently comes from a plant or plant called "papiola targeted". Thus, it follows that it would be a territory rich in this type of vegetation.

Traditionally the economics of this industry came from the locality. But from the beginning of the twentieth century this town is positioned as a summer population and second homes.
