Canyelles Castle is one of the most outstanding elements of Canyelles' historical and architectural heritage. This ancient medieval fortification, located in the heart of the town, preserves evidence of its defensive past and the importance it held for centuries in the organization of the territory. Its silhouette, marked by a circular tower and fragments of the wall, recalls the medieval origins of the municipality.

The history of the castle is closely linked to the Canyelles lineage, a family documented since the 11th century that gained particular prominence during the 13th century. This lineage played an important role in local history and in the development of the old fortified settlement.

Canyelles Castle was built around the 14th century, within the context of an old territorial demarcation linked to Olèrdola. These types of fortifications were part of the medieval territorial organization and contributed to the defense and control of the surrounding lands and settlements.

Over time, the castle underwent several transformations. One of the most significant took place in 1858, when the Baron of Canyelles commissioned a renovation of the building. This intervention modified part of the original structure, adapting it to the needs of a new era.

Among the preserved elements, a circular tower stands out, featuring small arrow slits at the top —narrow openings characteristic of defensive architecture. An interesting fragment of the wall, with some crenellated sections, is also preserved, allowing us to imagine the appearance of the former fortified enclosure. The tower is located next to the Church of Santa Magdalena, forming a complex of great historical interest.

Currently, Canyelles Castle is privately owned, but it remains a landmark of the town's landscape and a symbol of the municipality's identity. Exploring its surroundings offers a wonderful opportunity to delve into Canyelles' medieval history and admire the remains of a fortification that has witnessed centuries of history.
