Blancafort

Blancafort is a municipality in the region of Conca de Barbera.

The village lies in the central part of the Conca de Barberá, at 428 meters above sea level on the southern slope of the Sierra del Tallat. His term is quite hilly and is drained by numerous rivers that run north-south direction. It belongs to is called strict Basin, and the main crop is the vineyard.

Documented since 1207, it was formed in the second half of the twelfth century around its castle, which was part of the Duchy of Montblanc (ss. XIV-XVIII), and of which only the place name of the hill where it was located.

In the eighteenth century they paid tithes to the miter, in the village of Montblanc, in Castlà and the Monastery of Santa Maria de Vallbona. Most of its houses were built in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century; It stands out for its magnificence and building the Minguella House, popularly known as Cal Caballero (XVII century), where the noble family shield appears in its facade.

It denotes that demographic process was an important town during the Middle Ages, with about 400 inhabitants; after epidemics that ravaged Europe in the fifteenth century, the population was halved. Following the economic impact of the vineyard, in the eighteenth century had an important growth that culminated in 1860 with 1,291 inhabitants, its highest ever.
