Anglès
Anglès is a municipality located northeast of the Selva region. The old center of the town is located at the top of a small hill in the middle of the plain through which the Osor estuary and the Ter river pass. The rest of the population has been settling along this plain, in small mountains. The municipality of Anglès also includes the neighborhoods of Pla d'Amont and Pla d'Avall, located in the middle of the plain, and the neighborhood of Masies de Sant Amanç, on a mountainous area near Guilleries.
As you can see, the town of Anglès has a unique situation, but, even with its landscapes in front of us, we cannot forget everything that has been built by the hand of man and that is absolutely necessary to see when passing through this population. Of these spaces, it is essential to visit the town's Gothic quarter, which is one of the oldest and most important in Catalonia. Walking around we will discover how different architectural styles and different groups of buildings can be differentiated: medieval houses, Gothic mansions, the noucentiste buildings of Can Cendra and Can Camps.
The outdoor spaces that we find on Calle Major, with the buildings with inscriptions, are a must-see; Just like Avall Street, which has become famous for its two arches that cross it from one side to the other. We also cannot miss visiting the Plaza de la Vila, the former parade ground of the Anglès castle, where some elements of the period can still be seen today. This time also left us the church of Sant Miquel, which was the old chapel of the castle. It was located outside the walls, but even today there are remains of elements that protected it.
If we visit the area outside the walls, we will see a piece of what had been the protection of the town; the old castle mill, dated to the 13th century; the Santa Magdalena neighborhood; and near the mill we will find the road that led to Gerona in medieval times and was known as Via Moneria.
The greenway of the greenway that goes from Gerona to Olot also passes through the town of Anglès, and has recently been revitalized.
