Fountain of en Ballart and San Pedro de los Bigatà

We left in the direction of the town. We crossed the Corb River Bridge and the Corb River Avenue. We take the Calle de la Fuente that comes out right in front of us and take the second street on the right, Calle del Portal, which will take us to Plaza de Francesc Vicenç Garcia. We go up the stairs, the Pujador del Escolà, and we arrive at the Plaza de la Iglesia. We stand looking at the parish church, if we look up we can see the stones with which the bell tower was built come from the old chapel of San Pedro de los BIGATÁ s where we will go next.

We leave the town climbing up the old path of San Pedro, on the right we leave the Calle de la Fuente. We pass between the Primary Care Center (on the left) and some agricultural machinery warehouses (on the right). The road is paved. After the turnaround we turn left.

We turn left and go up the old road to San Pedro. We pass in front of different barracks in ruins, a small sample of the life and the agricultural and rural activity of the town. It is a narrow path that ascends through a grove and, further on, between old cultivation terraces.

We turn left up in the direction of the Ballart fountain. Before making the turn, we make a shortcut and take the path to the left. Once at the top, we come to the path of San Pedro and we turn left.

We arrived at the Ballart Fountain. Source of mineral water with proven diuretic properties. We go straight on. We continue along the San Pedro path and leave route 3. We skirt the corral and continue up. From now on, and until we reach the Maginet cabin (on the left), we will find different paths on both sides of the road. We always go straight on, without deviating from the main road.

We see the remains of the old hermitage of San Pedro de los Bigatà. We are in the oldest place in the municipality. This hermitage belonged to an old Benedictine priory until the 13th century, which passed to PERT yer in the parish of Vallfogona de Riucorb. In the days of the rector of Vallfogona it had an important popularity. From the window of the only remaining wall, you can see the town of Almendra de la Segarra and the Pre-Pyrenees.

We turn left and leave the path of San Pedro. We went down between planting fields. At about 300 meters the path ends and a path begins that leads us into a forest that winds its way down. Further on, it widens and glides between fields of cereals. Little by little, we go back into another forest.

The path to the left takes us to the Corral de la Filomena and the Ballart fountain. We continue along the path to the right and begin to go down hard inside the pleasant Boixadera forest. Attention with the stones, there are sections with a lot of loose stone. We reached the town. We leave the pedestrian path of Boixadera on the right that leads to the Vallfogona Spa and another that goes down to a cultivated field and, we enter the town through the street on the left.

We arrive at Calle de la Font, turn right and go down until we reach the road, Avenida del Río Cuervo. We cross it and arrive at the starting point where the tour ends. Excursion to the Ballart fountain and the remains of the San Pedro de los Bigatà hermitage, two spaces linked to the Rector of Vallfogona. While we enjoy the magnificent landscapes typical of the Corb Valley, we will pass through pine and holm oak forests and through completely barren terraces covered with forest.
