Val d'Aran

The Val d'Aran is a unique region located on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, in the province of Lleida, and is the only Atlantic valley in Catalonia. Known for its impressive mountain landscapes, its own culture and its ski resorts, this region offers a perfect combination of nature, history and tradition, all in a high mountain environment.

The capital of the Val d'Aran is Vielha, a welcoming town and the starting point for many of the activities that can be done in the valley. In Vielha, the Romanesque Church of San Miqueo stands out, which houses the famous Cristo de Mijaran, an emblematic piece of Aranese art. Walking through the streets of Vielha, you can enjoy the traditional mountain architecture, with stone houses and slate roofs. In addition, the city has a good selection of restaurants where you can taste the typical dishes of the region.

One of the great attractions of the Val d'Aran is its spectacular nature, which offers endless possibilities for lovers of adventure sports. During the winter, the Baqueira Beret ski resort is a reference destination for skiers, with slopes for all levels in an incomparable setting. In summer, the valley becomes a paradise for hiking and mountain bike routes, with paths that cross lush forests, glacial lakes and waterfalls. One of the most impressive places is the Estany de Sant Maurici, located in the Aigüestortes National Park, a protected area with landscapes of impressive beauty.

Aranese culture is another of its great treasures. The Val d'Aran has its own language, Aranese, a variant of Occitan Gascon, which is official in the valley along with Catalan and Castilian. This language and culture are kept alive thanks to the strong identity of its inhabitants, who celebrate festivals and deep-rooted traditions such as the Fiestas de San Juan, with bonfires and traditional dances.

The gastronomy of the Val d'Aran is marked by mountain dishes, with specialities such as ola aranesa, a hearty bowl of meat and vegetables, perfect for the cold winters. In addition, the local sausages and cheeses are of high quality and reflect the livestock farming tradition of the region.

Come and stay here, enjoy the ski slopes, explore the natural landscapes and be captivated by the culture and gastronomy of a valley that has kept its identity alive in one of the most spectacular settings in the Pyrenees: the Val de Aran.
