Terra Alta

Terra Alta is a region located in the Ebro region, in the south of Catalonia, known for its rugged landscapes, its high-quality vineyards and its important historical heritage. This region, marked by its links to the Spanish Civil War and its winemaking tradition, is ideal for those seeking an authentic experience in a unique natural and cultural environment.

One of the highlights of Terra Alta is its landscape, dominated by mountain ranges and plains of vineyards. Its wines, especially those of the Terra Alta Denomination of Origin, are renowned for their quality, with varieties such as Garnacha Blanca as the main protagonist. The region is full of small family wineries that offer visits and tastings, where you can discover the passion with which the vineyards are cultivated in this land.

The historical heritage of Terra Alta is deeply marked by the Battle of the Ebro, one of the most decisive episodes of the Spanish Civil War. The Sierra de Pàndols and the Sierra de Cavalls were the scene of fierce battles, and today you can visit memorial sites such as the 115 Days Interpretation Centre in Corbera d'Ebre, which recounts the events of that time. You can also visit the old town of Corbera d'Ebre, in ruins since that battle, which has been preserved as a memorial to the destruction.

The region is also rich in modernist architecture. In Gandesa, the capital of the region, you can visit the Bodega Cooperativa, a modernist work by Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí, considered a “cathedral of wine” for its impressive structure and beauty. In addition, Gandesa has an old town with streets full of charm and monuments such as the Church of the Assumption.

Nature is another of the great attractions of Terra Alta. The Els Ports Natural Park offers a spectacular landscape with mountains, valleys and lush forests. It is an ideal place for hiking, with routes that allow you to enjoy its natural wealth and fauna, including roe deer and Bonelli's eagle. Another outstanding natural area is the Terra Alta Greenway, an old railway line that has become a very popular cycling and hiking route, which passes through tunnels, bridges and surprising landscapes.

The gastronomy of Terra Alta is strongly rooted in local produce, with traditional dishes such as fricandó, sausages and casseroles of chunks. In addition, high-quality olive oils and wines from the DO Terra Alta are essential companions at the table.

Come and stay here, explore its historic and natural landscapes, taste its excellent wines and let yourself be captivated by the authentic charm of Terra Alta, a region full of memory, nature and flavour.
