Discovering Penedès and Alella at your own pace through the Cava Trails

BETWEEN SEA AND MOUNTAIN, EL PENEDÉS

Less than an hour by car from Barcelona we find the Penedès and Alella region, a valley protected by the Montserrat mountain where we find natural parks, mountains and beautiful towns and cities with a perfect climate for growing high-quality grapes.

The Penedès roads run through a landscape dotted with vineyards bathed in the sun and the Mediterranean Sea, pine forests, and scattered towns full of history, tradition and culture.

There are different ways to get to know the area, through a walk through the vineyards on foot or by bicycle, with a meal with unique and native products such as xató, a festival with history such as the Phylloxera Festival in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (September ), an authentic Castellera day in Vilafranca del Penedès, a visit to one of its castles... or also with a good glass of cava!

CAVA, THE SPARKLING WINE

Cava is the sparkling wine par excellence in Catalonia and it fills every Catalan with pride. The best way to discover all the secrets of its production and find the method that we like the most is to tour the Penedès wineries!

Cava is a sparkling wine, made using traditional methods typical of the Catalan region and adapted to the multiple grape varieties of this area, such as Xarel·lo, Parellada or Macabeo. Also, depending on the amount of sugar added to the wine and the maturation time in the bottles, we find different varieties such as Bruts, Brut Nature, Sweets... As well as Rosés, so popular in recent years.

But what really makes this cava a unique product are the special characteristics of the Penedès lands; the rest of the grape juice in large underground cellars; the love with which they are grown, cared for and collected; and the tradition and production techniques of the wineries.

Between the sea and the mountains, these wines are the result of a long professional path of many families towards excellence. A DO with different microclimates, soils and landscapes, from the green of the mountains to the blue of the sea, which provides great diversity to its wines.

We want to propose a perfect plan to tour the Penedès, discovering some of the best Catalan cava wineries and the best natural sites: Camins del cava. An initiative of the Cava Producers Association, AECAVA.

CAVA ROADS

Caminos del cava is a wine tourism proposal that combines walks between the vineyards of Penedès and Alella, on foot or by bicycle, around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Vilafranca del Penedès and Alella with visits to wineries and good gastronomy in restaurants in the territory.

Through the interactive website with geolocation (no need to download any app) www.caminsdelcava.com, we will find all the information necessary to create our own itinerary. It consists of a network of roads (tracks and trails) that gives us the freedom to choose the route we want to take, making it as easy as possible to access the rest of the wineries from any winery. In addition, we will also find the winery schedules, the time it takes to do each section, information on restaurants, accommodation and other points of interest such as shops, bicycle rental companies, parking lots and museums.

This web application is a new way to discover the territory and get closer to the cava culture in a sustainable way. In this first phase of the project there are 22 participating wineries from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia along with the neighboring areas of Subirats and Torrelavit.
