Proposals to enjoy the Castañada 2024
All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, November 1 and 2, according to the religious calendar, tradition and modernity coexist with celebrations of all kinds throughout the territory. In Catalonia, in recent years, the Castañada, the traditional festival where chestnuts, panellets and sweet wine are eaten, coexists with scary passages and terrifying parties.
From the Anglo-Saxon world, especially from the United States and popularized through cinema, new iconographic elements have arrived: pumpkins, skeletons and witches are increasingly present on these dates. But the origin of Halloween is not in the United States but in Ireland, and it came to that country through Irish immigrants.
Beyond the traditional celebrations with family and friends, the Castañada has become, in recent years, a fun and festive day, in which many towns and cities celebrate festivals of all kinds. There are many towns where the festival still bears the name “Castañada” and, although sweet potatoes and chestnuts are not cooked around the fire, the Town Councils do organize parties with music and other activities. However, in many places Halloween is gaining more importance and themed parties are celebrated, with zombies and horror events. Now, it is also true that in many places Halloween and Castañada are reconciled and celebrated together.
From femturisme.cat we offer you several proposals to spend a busy autumn and immerse yourself in the culture of Halloween. It is increasingly common for towns and cities to organize these performances in which attendees take a tour decorated with terrifying motifs. Meanwhile, actors dressed as zombies, clowns, exorcist girls or spirits of diabolical nuns scare attendees at every corner. An experience that attracts more followers every day!
