Natural cosmetics and medicinal plants in Catalonia
In the same way that we are increasingly aware and give more importance to what we eat, it is also very important to become aware and take into account what components we put on top of our body.
For this reason, the number of centers in Catalonia incorporating 100% natural and ecological high-cosmetic treatments is growing more and more .
Organic cosmetic products are made up of a mixture of mostly natural origin, that is, they take advantage of their natural benefits to create cosmetics. They maximize the use of natural resources without using chemical products, preserving the fertility of the land and respecting the environment. They have more active ingredients and their effectiveness is higher.
On the other hand, also linked to this philosophy and values of natural cosmetics, there is a growing interest in recovering the uses of medicinal plants or medicinal plants used for millennia by all cultures to cure and solve some evils.
They represent many benefits for people and in recent times more and more people are trying to do without conventional chemical drugs in specific pathologies. This discipline is called herbal medicine.
White hawthorn, marigold, lavender, thyme, fennel, sage, elderberry, horsetail are a few examples, but there are many more.
In Catalonia, the knowledge of plants, their medicinal virtues and the processes of elaboration of ancestral remedies during the 19th and early 20th centuries was relegated to women in mountain areas, such as those of the Valle de la Vansa and Tuixent, popularly known like tremantinaires.
The tremantinaires were dedicated to the collection of medicinal herbs and essential oils, the preparation of remedies and the marketing of these products in farmhouses and towns in Catalonia along routes that were traveled on foot.
