Discover the Sant Medir festivities!

The Sant Medir Festival is one of the most emblematic celebrations in Barcelona, especially in the Gràcia neighbourhood, as well as in other areas such as Sant Gervasi and Sarrià. It is celebrated on 3 March in honour of Sant Medir, the patron saint of farmers and the protagonist of a legend that mixes faith and tradition.
These festivals are best known for the grand parade of horses, carts and marching bands, from which kilos and kilos of sweets are thrown to the attendees. This has led to it being known as "the sweetest festival in Barcelona", as young and old alike take to the streets to fill entire bags with sweets.
The origin of the festival
The tradition of Sant Medir dates back to 1830, when the baker Josep Vidal i Granés, a resident of Gràcia, promised that if he was cured of an illness, he would make an annual pilgrimage to the hermitage of Sant Medir, located in the Sierra de Collserola. Over time, many local residents joined this pilgrimage, giving rise to the festival we know today.
A Party for Everyone
The Sant Medir Festival is especially loved by families, as it combines tradition, celebration and fun for the little ones. The candy shower is one of the most magical moments, and many people participate year after year to relive this sweet experience.
With more than 150 years of history, Sant Medir remains one of the most unique festivals in Barcelona, maintaining its popular spirit and roots in the city. If you want to experience a unique celebration and leave with your pockets full of sweets, this is your party!
