Walk during harvest time in the land of the Peach of Ordal in Subirats

On Sunday, June 2, Subirats participates in "Benvinguts a Pagès", a recreational-pedagogical agrotourism proposal that this 2024 reaches its 9th edition , the Festival wants to highlight the essential task of the primary sector and disseminate the origin and importance of consumption and purchase of local products, as well as the work of professionals in the food sector in society that allow us to create a sustainable, safe, resilient, healthy food system with universal access.

This year, the great festival of the Catalan peasantry is organized again in the month of June, with the aim of making the weekend coincide with the spring season, good temperatures and the fruit and vegetable sector campaign.

In Subirats, coinciding with the first weekend of the Ordal Peach Market, we propose a guided walk to see the peach fields. During the tour you will discover everything that refers to the cultivation of peach trees until the harvest of the fruit. Different aspects related to the Ordal peach will be explained, such as the geographical location, peculiarities of the peach, work carried out in the field during the harvest and differentiation from other peaches.

You can see the peach fields already loaded with fruits, the earliest varieties, especially the red peaches, the earliest ones. With the harvest comes the end of the cycle, when the peach is at its optimal point of ripeness it must be harvested, and the producers sell it at the Ordal Peach market, in the town of Sant Pau de Ordal. After the walk, visitors will discover the market and the Ordal peach producers.

Throughout the weekend of 'Benvinguts a Pagès' La Festa, visitors will be able to enjoy other experiences that take place in the municipality, at Bodegas Sumarroca, Bodega Eudald Massana and Llopart you can visit, taste and buy directly at the winery, and In the restaurants: Bodega de Ordal, Mirador de les Caves, the Sol i Vi hotel-restaurant, Cal Xim and Cal Pere del Maset you can taste the gastronomic offer of Catalan and traditional cuisine based on local ingredients.

The walk to learn about the cultivation tasks of peach trees and see the mature peach trees is pleasant to do and not very complex.
