Tortosa Irish English Festival 2026

Founded in 2013, the original idea of the Tortosa Irish English Festival was to create greater awareness of the English language for the people of Tortosa and Roquetes.

There are over 3000 people in this area with an interest in the English language if you include all the private language schools, as well as the Official Language School, primary and secondary schools, plus university students.

Many professionals in this region have a working knowledge of English, but lack the resources to practice it. Then, of course, there are the parents of these students who want their children to learn English as a way to improve their future job prospects. And above all, there are a number of retired native English speakers who have settled in this area over the last twenty years or so.

In September 2012, the mayor sought support from English speakers to organize an English language festival. The mayor praised the Tortosa English Festival, saying it brought a much-needed cultural and entertaining element to Tortosa.
