'Setmana Medieval' of Sant Jordi de Montblanc!

Every spring, Montblanc transforms into an authentic medieval village with the celebration of the Setmana Medieval de Sant Jordi, one of the most emblematic festivals in Catalonia.

For several days, the streets and squares of the historic center come alive with a wide-ranging program of activities: a medieval market, a wine and sparkling wine market, craft demonstrations, processions, shows, and performances for all ages. All of this creates a unique atmosphere that transports visitors centuries back in time.

The Legend of Saint George

The 'Setmana Medieval' has as its central focus the representation of the Legend of Saint George, which places the fight between the knight and the dragon in the town of Montblanc, as recorded by authors such as Joan Amades in the Costumari Català.

For over 35 years, this legend has come to life in a grand open-air spectacle that combines music, fire, and projections on the medieval city wall. With a capacity for 1,500 spectators and the participation of more than 200 actors and actresses, it is one of the most spectacular popular performances in the country.

The Montblanc Dragon

The dragon is one of the great symbols of 'Setmana Medieval' and an essential figure in the performance.

Measuring 8.5 meters long and 4 meters high, it is one of the largest dragons in Catalonia. Its articulated structure—with moving legs, folding wings, and a movable neck, jaw, and tail—gives it a highly realistic stage presence.

Unveiled in 2017 to mark the 30th anniversary of the festival, the current dragon is the result of a careful design and construction process based on the study of real animals and prehistoric elements, making it a unique piece.
