Lo Ranxo de Ponts
Lo Ranxo de Ponts, one of the most unique festivals in Catalonia in terms of collective meals!
The event marks the end of the Carnival festivities in Ponts, among other towns in the Segre Medio area, which celebrates it with the ranch, the typical escudella of the region.
On the eve of the meal, the Lali-Lali is celebrated, a drum parade that announces through the streets and squares of Ponts that it is time to collect food for the bowl. The residents of the town voluntarily give all the necessary ingredients so that the great meal can be celebrated the next day.
At dawn on Shrove Tuesday , the fire is lit to boil seventy cauldrons and prepare the ranch throughout the morning and until noon, a kind of peasant fat escudella that can be smelled from all corners of the town. Just before distributing the rations among all the residents and visitors, the parish priest blesses the food.
