Bagà Rice Festival

The Rice Festival of Bagà is already a rooted tradition that is celebrated on the second Sunday of February.

This year on February 9 is the date indicated, to give continuity to one of the oldest festivities of the municipality, which is described in the Bagà archive from the beginning of the founding of the town, in the thirteenth century, when the Consuls (the former councilors) collected donations to offer a meal to the people most in need.

Currently, the Rice Festival brings together villagers and people from outside the town to eat a great paella in the Plaza Porxada. More than 2,500 portions of the dish are distributed , which is cooked with the help of several Baganese and includes almost 250 kilos of rice or 20 chickens, in a pan of 2.8 meters in diameter.

While the traditional rice is cooked, those present can enjoy the typical Ball Cerdà, a dance performed by the Cadí flock, and that formerly had to start that couple who was getting married at a time very close to the party. At present, the flock makes a first "pass" and then the townspeople also dance.

On the other hand representatives of the gastronomic sector of Bagà will present their proposals, with which the visitor can enjoy the celebration and then taste a menu where rice takes center stage to complete the party. To be able to taste the menus there will be previous reservation and the price will range between 15 and 30 euros.

Apart, you can find different typical products at the artisan food fair, meeting of cava plates, traditional dances and a whole program of activities around this celebration.
