Sant Maties festivities in Montblanc
Montblanc celebrates the Sant Maties Festival once again!
The festivities are held in honor of the town's patron saint, Sant Maties. San Jorge was its patron until 1687, when he was replaced as patron by Sant Maties due to a vote of the people for having saved the town from a terrible plague of locusts.
A few years ago a fair was also held with an important gastronomic and wine component. The official competition for wines and cavas from the Conca de Barberà Denomination of Origin was held in the old church of Sant Francesc, and the multi-sector fair was held outside.
Currently, in the Plaza Mayor, after mass, all the town's folk groups perform. It is a good opportunity to see the different elements of the popular procession and the bestiary of Montblanc. There is also a meeting of giants and a castle festival apart from other cultural events, such as exhibitions, concerts or sardana dances.
