Festival of the Raiers of La Pobla de Segur and el Pont de Claverol
Since 1979, every first weekend in July, the Raiers Festival is celebrated, in commemoration of the ancient profession of Raier (logger, raftsman), who transported wood from the Pyrenean forests to the plain through the rivers with boats.
The profession of raftsman became extinct at the beginning of the 20th century with the construction of dams, which made crossing difficult, and with the appearance of trucks, which offered faster and easier transport.
The festival, declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest since 2002, lasts three days and includes concerts, a popular dinner, the alpargata and the rafting descent on Sunday at midday. Currently, four rafts descend from the Sossís dam, passing through La Pobla de Segur to Pont de Claverol ( Conca de Dalt ), where people await them. The day ends with a popular meal and a dance at the end of the festival.
