'Festa de la Farigola (Thyme)' in Prades

The town of Prades, being located almost 1,000 meters above sea level, until this time of the year the weather cannot be considered to be spring-like. Traditionally around this time, once the farigola (thyme) flowered and coinciding with the potato planting in Prades, the women used to meet in the main square to prepare bundles of thyme to dry.

In the 1970s, other elements began to be added to these welcoming meetings in spring, such as facade decoration, flower carpets, tasting thyme soup with honey and sardana pilgrimages.

In 1975 the festival was hosted by the Municipality of Prades and the City Council promoted the decoration of the facades and intimate places with thyme.

The festival, with more than 40 years of history, announces the arrival of summer in Prades, the festival has been growing by introducing craft markets, trade demonstrations, workshops for children, exhibitions of castles, or colles de bastoners, tasting of tisanes from thyme... the common thread has always been to publicize thyme, its benefits and its recipes and its main attraction is the competition for decorating facades with floral decorations.
