Arbúcies Enramades Festival

Les Enramades, the most awaited festival by all the inhabitants of Arbúcies returns for another year!

The first news about the festival dates back to the 16th century, specifically on June 21, 1589, Corpus Christi day, a fatal accident is mentioned in a small review found in the parish archives when the old Arbúcies square was framed. According to the document, some workers planted a pine tree in the middle of the square to decorate it, but when it was lifted it fell and crushed a worker, who died.

The denomination of bower comes from the ornamentation with branches and branches (alder, ash, hazel) placed in front of the houses, covering the street from one side to the other with a fabric of garlands.

Today the streets are still decorated with paper or plastic garlands, possibly one of the latest changes experienced by this ancient festivity, declared of national interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1999.

Until the last century, the Enramades had a marked religious accent and it was not until 1977 when the procession led by the passage of the Blessed Sacrament was replaced by a parade or parade. But thirty years earlier , the most characteristic and well-known element of the festival had already been incorporated: the flower carpets as we know them now, that is, made with petals and designed in advance by those responsible for each street.

Arbúcies receives around 30,000 visitors during the Corpus vuitada (8 days) that makes up Les Enramades.
