Saint John's Festival in Montblanc

In the past, on the night of Sant Joan's Eve, the residents of Montblanc would go up to the hermitage of Sant Joan to meet and celebrate the festival together. The lighting of the bonfire was the signal for the rest of the bonfires in the neighboring towns. While the festival was held around the fire in the hermitage, in the towns the neighbors gathered for a dinner where the cake, the mistela and the fireworks gave way to a long night of revelry.

In recent years the Hermits of San Juan de la Montaña have been the new promoters of this festival. On the eve the Canigó Flame arrives which will serve to illuminate the hermitage of Sant Joan. The day at the hermitage begins with a mass and continues with the performance of the Ball de Bastons de Montblanc and the changing of the flag at the viewpoint. On the other hand, the Montblanc Athletic Club organizes a climb and walk race in the hermitage.
