Solsona Festival

The Solsona Festival is one of the oldest and most traditional festivals currently celebrated in Catalonia. The celebration, which is part of the country's rich festive heritage, dates back to at least the 14th century, reflecting its long history and cultural importance.

The Fiesta Mayor maintains the same stage spaces used in the 17th century, which makes it even more special. Back then, in 1690, Solsona had 3,150 inhabitants, while today the population exceeds 9,000. This demographic evolution has brought a new dimension to the festival, which now attracts a considerable number of visitors and participants.

The main days of the celebration are September 8th and 9th, when the giants, dwarfs, horses, the eagle, and the dragon, among other traditional figures, come out to show off their finery. These performances are one of the festival's most notable attractions, as they connect attendees with popular culture and the community's roots.

In recognition of its importance, the Solsona Festival was declared a heritage festival of national interest in 2008. This status not only underscores its cultural significance but also helps preserve traditions and encourage community participation in the celebration.
