Natural Products Fair and the Rice Festival in Bagà

Formerly called "Poor People's Food", it was previously celebrated on Carnival Sunday. As of today, it is set for the second Sunday in February.

On Sunday morning, the chefs gather in the historic arcaded square of Bagà to prepare a dish in an immense frying pan measuring 2.80 meters in diameter. While they prepare the sofrito, the square fills with people attracted by the smell and the curiosity to see how a frying pan is cooked for more than 2,000 people. Finally, 250 kilos of rice are added, which, in general opinion, is always perfect.

While the food is prepared, the Cadí esbart does a dance, including the traditional Ball Cerdà. In the past, this dance began with the couple who was about to get married soon at the party. Next, the most recently married couple participated, followed by other local couples, performing a collective dance that culminated in a fast gallop.

Today, the Cadí esbart begins the dance with an initial "step", after which the local population joins the dance. For a few years now, on the same day as the Rice Festival, a fair of artisanal food products has also been held.
