Sant Gil Festival in the Núria Valley

As every year, September 1st marks the feast of Sant Gil, a celebration that holds a prominent place in the calendar of the Núria Valley. Sant Gil is considered the patron saint of shepherds, especially those who work in the Eastern Pyrenees, a region rich in traditions and history related to livestock farming.

Saint Giles ' Day begins with a hearty shepherd's breakfast, a way for the community to gather and share the bounty of the land. Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy various activities, such as the sardana dance, a traditional Catalan dance that fosters social cohesion. There is also the selection of sheep, a time when animals are chosen for different livestock-related activities, and a commemorative mass honoring Saint Giles. The day continues with a procession to the chapel of Saint Giles, where participants can take part in local rituals and traditions.
