'Ball of Sant Crist' by Salomó

The Ball del Sant Crist de Salomó is back!

The Ball del Sant Crist de Salomó is a theatrical performance with medieval roots that has been declared a Festive Heritage Element of National Interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia. This dance belongs to the genre of spoken dances, a tradition that combines dance with theater, and which stages legendary events from the 16th century that popular tradition has maintained to this day.

The story told in this dance is very significant for the community. During a time of famine that gripped the town and the entire region, a merchant from Solomon named Josep Nin set sail for Algiers in search of wheat. His mission was not only to bring food back to his people, but he also returned with an image of a crucifix, which he miraculously managed to buy for thirty pieces of silver after overcoming numerous obstacles during his journey.

The event not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of Salomó, but also reflects the importance of community in times of hardship. The Ball del Sant Crist offers all visitors the opportunity to experience and enjoy this deeply rooted tradition, which brings the community together in a vibrant and emotional celebration.
