Montblanc celebrates Corpus Christi once again!

The Corpus Christi procession in Montblanc is a celebration with deep historical roots, considered for centuries one of the town's most popular and important festivals. Since the 14th century, the festival has brought together confraternities, neighborhoods, authorities, and all the local folklore, becoming a truly splendid event. One of the most unique aspects of the old procession was the presence of the "sepulturero" or "doso" (gravedigger or moat), who brought up the rear of the procession and whose role was to keep the hooded women praying with rosaries at a distance.

Today, the festival is kept alive with the Corpus Christi Mass, which includes the participation of children who have recently received their First Communion and the bell ringers from the parish of Santa Maria. Afterwards, a procession takes place from the church of Santa Maria to the Serra Sanctuary. Later, the traditional procession, accompanied by civil and ecclesiastical authorities, parades to the main square. This event is an exceptional opportunity to witness the most representative folkloric traditions of Montblanc.
