Corpus in Montblanc

Montblanc celebrates Corpus Christi once again!

It was the most popular and prominent festival in the surrounding area since the 14th century. All local folkloric elements, brotherhoods, neighborhoods and authorities participated. A curiosity is the fact that in ancient times the procession was closed by the gravedigger or pit, in charge of keeping the hooded women carrying a rosary at a distance.

Currently, it continues to be celebrated with the presence of children who celebrate communion for the first time, the bell ringers, the civil and ecclesiastical authorities, and the popular procession of the town. It begins with a solemn mass in the church of Santa Maria and continues with a procession to the sanctuary of La Serra. The Ball de Bastons performs inside the church of Santa Maria and at the exit of the monstrance, the eagle dances and the Torraires make a pillar. At the end of the procession, the Seguici Popular performs in the Plaza Mayor.
