Platja d'Aro Carnival

The Platja d'Aro Carnival is back, where the traditional Grand Parade of Floats and Troupes will not be missing!

The Platja d'Aro Carnival is today a benchmark throughout the country, and its high point, the Great Parade of Floats and Comparsas, becomes its maximum expression. The current format of one of the events that has made the population famous is relatively young.

It started more than 40 years ago, and curiously, it was not inspired by any Caribbean proposal, but by the Central European one of the Swiss city of Lucerne, where a municipal delegation went to study its model.

The celebration of this festival in the town, however, is much older, before the Spanish Civil War, and with some elements that are very reminiscent of the current ones.

Although the celebration was recovered in 1978, it was not until a year later that the figure of Carnival, with a long tradition throughout Catalonia, was reintroduced. In his early years he was an independent figure, chosen from among the most popular characters in the city.

From 1984 onwards he began to be accompanied by his own carnival gang and was always a man, except in 1983 and 1992. Since then the binomial of the Queen and the King has been consolidated, combining it with other imaginative formulas; an exclusive poker of Reines in 2010 or the accompaniment of four nymphs in 2011.
