Carnival in Montblanc
Montblanc is celebrating Carnival once again with a programme packed with events!
The most characteristic element of the Montblanc Carnival was the Xeringa, a tradition of medieval origin. It consisted of building a large syringe and asking for a tithe from visitors, who, if they refused, were sprayed with water. Today, the Xeringa is celebrated in the Plaza Mayor and consists of wetting everyone who passes by.
Carnival is celebrated intensely for three days. On Friday, schools celebrate Carnival, with children as the protagonists. On Saturday morning, His Majesty Carnival and his entourage are welcomed with a party that gives way to debauchery. In the afternoon, the grand parade and the float and troupe competition take place. Finally, on Tuesday, the celebration closes with the burial of the sardine, the reading of His Majesty Carnival's will and the awarding of the competition prizes.
