Carnival in Montblanc

Montblanc celebrates the Carnival festival once again with a program full of events!

One of the most emblematic events of the Montblanc Carnival and that gives uniqueness to the festival is, without a doubt, the Xeringa. It is a custom that dates back to the Middle Ages and consisted of building a large syringe and asking visitors for a tithe. Whoever refused was wet. Currently, once the reading of the Carnival proclamation and his Concubine has finished on the balcony of the Town Hall, an intense water war begins inside the Plaza Mayor of Montblanc based on a very simple principle: anyone within the Square boundaries may be wet. The event takes its name from the large brass syringes with which the participants shoot the water.

The Montblanc Carnival has two days of maximum activity. On Saturday morning His Carnival Majesty and his Concubine are received, the children's parade takes place and the debauchery and party begins. In the afternoon the Grand Carnival Parade is held with a float and troupe competition. And on Tuesday, throughout the day, His Majesty's Carnival vigil is held and at night, there is the reading of the will, the awarding of prizes for the contest and the burial of the sardine.
