Caramelles from Suria

With Holy Week, the traditional Caramelles from Súria arrive.

The forecast is that the Caramelles surienques will once again be the largest in Catalonia this year, with the participation of hundreds of "caramellaires" of all ages.

Súria is the Catalan capital of caramelles due to its age and the large number of participants that this traditional festival of song and dance gathers in the streets to celebrate Easter. This integration of music and dance turns the streets and squares of the town into privileged settings for a unique cultural manifestation of traditional roots.

Hundreds of caramellaires of all ages, grouped into various groups, fill the streets of the town every year coinciding with the beginning of spring. The Caramelles de Súria have been documented since the 16th century. It is a tradition that is passed from father to son and attracts a significant number of visitors.

Since June 2016, the Caramelles de Súria are part of the Catalog of the Festive Heritage of Catalonia, which brings together the most outstanding celebrations, festivals and singular elements of our country's cultural and intangible heritage.
