March 27, World Theater Day
World Theater Day was created in 1961 at the initiative of the International Theater Institute (ITI), however, its first official celebration was on March 27 of the following year.
The International Theater Institute is the largest arts organization in the world. It was created in 1948 by artists, theater experts and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ). The ITI is currently a non-profit organization.
In commemoration of World Theater Day, theater professionals, organizations and centers, as well as performing arts schools pay tribute to this form of expression.
They also aim to make governments and institutions aware of the value of this art for citizens.
